Long time, no see...

I am still recovering but luckily caught the pneumonia in the early stages.  I will be allowed back to work on Wednesday.  I'm locked out of school email so if you have sent me anything since Friday, I will not get it until it can be unlocked when I return to work.

I hope you have been doing the work you have been given as it will count as your classwork for each of the days I have been out.  If you were legally absent one day I was out, please be sure that your parent/guardian has called you in sick or you have brought a note to the Attendance Office (they only way to be exempt form a class assignment.)

Until further notice, a few changes & reminders need to be made:
1. There will be no make-ups or extra help before school.  There has been no HW due so this should not be an issue, and all exam/quiz deadlines expired before I got sick.
2. As stores are running out of all kinds of supplies, please use the tissues I have bought as necessary but also like you have to pay for them per tissue.  Don't just grab a bunch of them.  Usually those get wasted, and once the stores run out we won't have any more.  Also, please don't put your hand all the way in the box if you have coughed or sneezed on that hand!  Ask me or someone who isn't sick to do that for you.
3.  If you are sick, please stay home.  You can make up the work when you are better in all of your classes.
4. Until my poor lungs are fully healed, I'll be standing in the back corner to easily see you & the board, but not in the middle of you as usual.  The desks may be arranged accordingly.
5.  If you are sick & came to school anyway (why???), please let me know so we can wipe down your desk once your class has ended so the next person who sits there has a clean desk to use.
6.  Your progress reports are done using the grades currently in Thinkwave.

I hope all of you are well & taking care of yourselves.  See you Wednesday.

CL Test: Ch 29 Online Exam Closes on 3/4

Your Chapter 29 old-style content question test is now open in Castle Learning.  It will close at 2 pm on Wednesday, 3/4.  Your Chapter 29 packet is due no later than the start of your class period on Wednesday, 3/4.  These packets will not be accepted late since you had 8 days to turn it in after we finished the chapter.  The Quizlet Review has been open since 2/24.  If you have been in class, paid attention, done your homework, and study you should do very well on the test.  STUDY THE REVIEW IN QUIZLET!  Remember, all previous chapters are fair game to show up on your exam so be sure to review those topics in Quizlet, too!

As this exam is online, there are no make-ups.  If you fail to start or compete the exam by the deadline, at which time the exam will lock, you will get the score reported by CL.

Valentine's Day

*Allegedly,* these are relics (bones) of St. Valentine.  I saw this myself my last trip to Rome.  Before we get in a tizzy over who did & who did not get a life-size teddy bear or 400 roses, let's learn a little bit about where tomorrow came from shall we?

The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Valentine’s Day, in fact, originated as a liturgical feast to celebrate the decapitation of two third-century Christian martyrs.

The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Still others insist that it was Saint Valentine of Terni, a bishop, who was the true namesake of the holiday. He, too, was beheaded by Claudius II outside Rome.

The ancient feast held during this time is not one I fell is necessary or even appropriate to post here, but let's just say it involved singe women being peer pressured into being matched with men by pulling names out of a jar.  Sound romantic to you?

Tomorrow is a commercial holiday brought to you by Hallmark & every chocolate & flower company out there, solely for their own profit.  Do you really need 12 commercials to tell you that you should tell the important people in your life how you feel about them?  And that you must do it on 2/14 or you are clearly a terrible person?  The answer should be a very loud NO.

Tomorrow is about capitalism.  Don't let it bother you one bit if you don't get something that shows other people someone loves you.  LOTS of people love you.  They show you every single day.  Love does not require money or gifts.  Ever.

See you tomorrow.  I hope you studied.

If you cut or were not legally absent you cannot make up this assignment.
