Updates, 1/30

1. Today's HWQ (30/1) will be tomorrow after your vocab quiz.

3.  Ch 29 HWQ make-ups require you taking the actual quiz, not just checking notes.  You have tomorrow & Thursday at the time stated in the original due date post.  You will not take the same quiz as your class period.

4.  Exam remains Friday.

5.  Thinkwave is updated.  Take a look how NOT having a sheet sign &/or NOT doing your HW has already impacted your 3rd MP average.

NYS Clause Requiring You to Pass BOTH the Course AND Regents Exam in order to Graduate

From the New York State Dept of education, for anyone who thinks he/she does not have to pass a course to graduate.  This is proof from the State that you cannot simply pass a regents Exam to get credit for a course & graduate.  Failed the class?  G to summer school.  You have been warned ALL.  YEAR.  LONG.

SECTION SIX
AWARDING OF CREDIT AND ISSUANCE OF REGENTS DIPLOMAS
Awarding of Credit for Courses of Study:
A course of study involves class attendance, homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and other instructional activities. In many instances it also involves the taking of a State exam at the end of the course. When deciding whether a student who is enrolled in a course of study has satisfactorily completed the course and is entitled to credit for such course, the teacher should evaluate the student’s performance on all these activities. In accordance with Section 100.5(a)(5)(v) of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education (http://www.p12.nysed.gov/part100/home.html), passing the Regents Exam in a subject shall not be construed as having earned a unit of credit in that subject unless the student also passes the course as offered in a registered high school or meets the requirements for credit by exam. (See section below, Students Not Enrolled in Courses of Study.)

January Regents Exam

The DBQ was insane on Wednesdays exam.  Not only were the documents long & the questions challenging, but the essay topic itself was on scarcity.  Specifically, you had to discuss 2 of the following: impact of scarcity of water on Middle Eastern politics, scarcity of raw materials influencing Japanese foreign policy in the late 1800s to mid-1900s, and scarcity of resources for the Incas.

The multiple choice had longer readings than normal & several questions per reading, in graduated difficulty.  This is what we think we will see in June.

If you weren't worried enough to d your work before the 3rd MP, it just might be able to pull of the Regents.  If you wait even one more week, it's over.  The only good thing is they won't be asking the Incas in June.  But remember I told you last week about how they like Japan & it shows up in the essays a lot...and there it was.

You should listen to me.  I know what I'm talking about...

THINKWAVE SIGNED SHEET DUE TODAY, 1/19

A printout was given out in class today.  If you were absent, I may still have yours in 1823, please come before 1st period to 1823/1825 to check.

If you do not have one, was not in class, lost it, etc., you must print the 2nd Quarter at home, write your 1st & last name on top with your class period, and have your parent sign the printout.  That is the only alternate acceptable for credit.

Easy test grade of 100 or 0
100: You turned it in by the START of class on Friday, 1/19, when I walk by the rows to collect as I step into the room after the start bell has rung.
0: You did not do the above.  This includes you being late to class, passing it up late, etc. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to this.

TEST TODAY: Fri, 2/16, Ch 29 Exam

Your Chapter 29 Exam will be on Friday, 2/16.  The Quizlet Review has been open since Jan 2nd.  If you have been in class, paid attention, done your homework, and study you should do very well on the test.  STUDY THE REVIEW IN QUIZLET - it was made using the material on your exam.  Remember to review Ch 22-26 as well, since it will also be on your exam.

Your Chapter 29 Packet will also be due at the start of class today.

Make up dates are Feb. 26 & 27, 6:50 - 7:15 am.  It is a full period exam, make up session ends at 7:30 am so be as early as possible for maximum time.  Failure to make-up the exam will result in a zero for that test.  Cuts & illegal absences cannot be made up, and anyone late to class will not receive extra time on the exam.

QUIZ TODAY: 2/14, Ch 29 Vocab

Vocabulary Quiz on these on Wednesday, 2/14.  Your words will be due at that time.  You may write them out as a list on paper OR you may write each on a flash card (use a flashcard for the required homework heading.)   Required homework heading must be used.  Use your knowledge, notes, online textbook, handouts, or the Internet to find the definitions.

The list of words is at the end of this post.
