QUIZ/TEST 11/19: Ch 24 "Old-Style" Content Questions

Your Chapter 24 old-style content question quiz/test will be on Tuesday, 11/19.  The Quizlet Review has been open since 11/11.  If you have been in class, paid attention, done your homework, and study you should do very well on the test.  STUDY THE REVIEW IN QUIZLET!  Remember, all previous chapters are fair game to show up on your exam so be sure to review those topics in Quizlet, too!

Make up for legal absences is before school (per my make-up policy), last day to make up is Thursday, 11/21.  Failure to make-up the exam will result in a zero for that test.  Cuts & illegal absences cannot be made up, and anyone late to class will not receive extra time on the exam.  Make-up period ends at 7:15 AM.  To have the same amount of time for the test as was offered in lass, you must arrive to 1823 by 6:45 AM.  You can arrive after that time, but your time ends at 7:15 AM.

If you can't come before school to make up the exam don't be absent for it!

TEST 11/21: Ch 24 Stimulus-Based Question Exam

Your Chapter 24 Stimulus-Based Question Exam will be on Thursday, 11/21.  This exam will be stimulus-based, which means it will only have he new style Regents questions that use documents but rely on content knowledge.  The Quizlet Review has been open since 11/11.  If you have been in class, paid attention, done your homework, and study you should do very well on the test.  STUDY THE REVIEW IN QUIZLET - it will help you with the content you need to answer stimulus-based questions.  Remember, all previous chapters are fair game to show up on your exam so be sure to review those topics in Quizlet, too!

There is no video packet for Ch 24.

Make up for legal absences is before school (per my make-up policy), last day to make up is Tuesday, 11/26.  There will be no make-up on 11/22 as I am at a Conference for the new US History Regents Exam.

QUIZ 11/18: Ch 24 Vocab

Vocabulary Quiz on these on Monday, 11/18.  Your words will be due at that time.  You may write them out as a list on paper OR you may write each on a flash card (use a flashcard for the required homework heading.)   Required homework heading must be used.  Use your knowledge, notes, online textbook, handouts, or the Internet to find the definitions.

Homework Heading (required on all work submitted):

Your Name                                                   Global II
Class Period                                                Assignment
(in this case, your assignment is Ch 24 Vocab)

If you are making flashcards they MUST be rubber-banded together BEFORE submitting AND BEFORE the bell rings (there are rubber bands behind my desk - ask me!), and your top card must be a heading card (see above.)  You will get extra credit for making flash cards.

"Quiz" or Test?" You Decide!

I have to figure out if I want to count your "old style questions" test as a test or a quiz.  I'm torn, so I'm letting you decide.  Email me by the start of school on 11/12 with your vote.  Here are the arguments for & against:

Use as a QUIZ grade:
PRO: Isn't weighted as heavy as a test; will not be a full period (30 questions max)
CON: If you do better on straight-forward, old-style content questions, it won't count as much as a test grade (so won;t help your average as much as a good test grade.)

Use as a TEST grade:
PRO: If you do well on those mini quizzes in class, this is a test with those kinds of questions.  It carries equal weight to a stimulus exam.
CON: It's another assessment; it's a full period (50 questions old-school style exam)

Email me with your vote.  Your email must have your 1st & last name with class period in the subject field for your email to be opened & your vote counted!

"When is the make-up?"

I'm getting a little frustrated with the lack of reading many of you do.  This is going to be my last post about the subject and the last time I am going to address it here or in class.

My answer to "when is the make up" will always now be "it is on the website."  Make up dates & deadlines are ALWAYS posted with the assignment.  ALWAYS.  Every time, every single time, I have asked someone who has said "when are the make ups," they admit they have not actually read the post past the date of the test, etc.  This is your responsibility.   I've said it for 2 months.  After the crazy number of absences last Friday, I was asked "when is the make up" in person & by email SEVENTEEN TIMES.  No more.

You have a field trip?  It's your job to know the make up schedule.
Have an assembly?  It's your job to know the make up schedule.
Absent for the day?  It's your job to know the make up schedule.

As for "but I can't get there before school," my responses are the same as they have been for the last 3 years: "then don't be absent since everything is announced in advance" and "figure something out before the deadline."

You made a choice to miss class on the day you knew you had a quiz, test, etc.  That means you also knew you would have to make it up...and since the make up info was posted, you had all the information needed to make the decision that s best for you.

Yes, things happen.  Yes, sometimes there are extenuating circumstances.  These do not include Guidance appointments, assemblies, field trips, music lessons, or arriving late to class. If I make an exception for one of you, I have to make it for all of you to be fair.  That's why there are class policies.  They are posted online, they were sent home, they were signed, and they are posted with every assignment I give you.

So...as we start the 2nd marking period, please keep all of these items in mind.  Start reading the entire post, and be sure you can make something up if you are gong to miss class.

I'm glad we have hat all cleared up.  I hope you enjoyed your day off.  See you tomorrow.

Reminder: Check October for work due in November

As a reminder, your work due in November was posted in October, so it will still be listed in October on the right side menu.  It will NOT show up under the November menu.  Please keep this in mind as you look for what's due if you don't start it in advance.  I always post early to give you plenty of time to get the work done at your own pace, but this means that you may need to click on the previous month to see the posting.
