Extra Extra-Credit

To reward those who are doing their work & all they can to get the best possible average & Regents Exam score, the following offer is being extended:

If you meet all of the requirements in this post:
https://mrsramoglobal2.blogspot.com/2019/04/after-school-regents-review-extra-credit.html

AND you attend my Friday reviews, I will give you one point per our of review you go to for Global that week with any other teacher.  You must ask me for a slip the day of the review at the start of class - you & that teacher must complete the slip & turn it in the next day.

Let me be clear:
1.  You must ask for the extra credit slip before your class starts on the day you are attending review.  None will be handed out at the end of class due to switching rooms.
2.  You must turn it in the following day by the start of your class period.  None will be accepted late even for absences.  You have no time left to be absent.
3.  You must be signed up for & attend my Friday review that week for any extra credit to count, and all conditions of the Friday review must be met.
4. You must meet all conditions for earning the extra credit for my review, including being in "good standing" for that week.
5.  Failure to meet any of these will result in no points being granted.

Unprepared this week?

Everyone who signed up for review & came to class without their work yesterday & today lost this Friday's points.  Today's work was due MARCH 29th, a full month ago.  Yesterday's classwork was recall of information we have covered many times as well as document skills with Regents pacing.  No excuses for not doing or having either.

Friday Review Reminders

If you signed up fir review & want pizza, please remember you need EXACT CHANGE.  It is $1.25 per slice.  It is plain/cheese pizza.  You can order as many slices as you want.

The doors/halls to the lobby may or may not be open, but there is a water fountain just outside the Senior Cafeteria.  Feel free to bring a refillable water bottle, or remember to bring extra singles/change for the machine.  We will not be ordering drinks with the pizza.

You must be there not later than 2:10.  Release time is 5:15 for the 5:30 bus.  If someone is picking you up, please be sure they arrive between 5:15 & 5:30 so you are not waiting outside by yourself, especially if it is cold or raining.  I leave at 5:30, and you cannot stay in the building without adult supervision.

You do not need to bring anything else to review.

Failing, extra credit, & last chance...

In danger of failing for the year and still didn't bother with the extra credit?

You can earn HALF of what everyone who did it on time will earn.

Here's how, and NO MORE EXTENSIONS WILL BE GIVEN!
1.  Follow all steps in the original post.
2. Write out your plan for earning the grade you need for the 4th MP.
3. Show up by 7:10 am SHARP to room 1823 with the completed paper.  Anything after 7:10 will not be accepted.

If any of the steps from the original post or here are missing, or you are late, you have lost your 3rd & final chance at extra credit.

This is only for students in danger of failing for the year unless they earn a 75 or better for the 4th MP.  No one else qualifies for this "last chance."

Reminder for the 4th MP

As a reminder, any "grade disputes" for an assignment in Thinkwave must be made, in writing, no later than 5 school days past the entry of that assignment.  No requests will be honored after that time has passed.  You must submit your inquiry by email before the deadline.

DUE Wednesday, 4/17, Cuba Questions

The Cuba Questions handed out in class today are due tomorrow.  You will need them for class, just like notes.  If you were legally absent today, come to the room before 7:15 & get them...you cannot get a successful participation grade if you do not have our work.

Extra Credit Opportunity - Read to the End

UPDATE 4/14: All grades are finalized & entered into your report card based on your Thinkwave average for the 3rd MP.

Do this exercise:
1. Open up Thinkwave & go to your 1st MP average.  NOT YOUR REPORT CARD GRADE.  The actual, mathematical grade you earned, which is what Thinkwave has.
2.  Get out your phone or calculator.
3.  Take a full sheet of paper & put a heading on it (your name, my name, your course, & put "What I Need" instead of the date/as the assignment
Ready?

Here is what you need to do:
1. Write 260 on your paper.
2. Subtract your 1st MP average from Thinkwave from 260 (write "1st MP" next to it.)
3. Subtract your 2nd MP average from Thinkwave from that remainder (write "2nd MP" next to it.)
3. Subtract your current 3rd MP average from Thinkwave from that remainder (write "current 3rd MP" next to it.)  Your 3rd MP grade isn't finalized yet, so this is an estimate.  This can go up or down depending what you do this week as far as HW, online exams, participation, etc.
4.  Write "What I need to pass the course" next to the final remainder.  That number right there is what you need to earn the 4th MP to pass the course.  This also assumes a passing regents Score, since 260 is 65x4...so you need to get at least a 65 on the Regents for this to be accurate.
5.  Have your parent sign it
6.  Turn it in at the start of class Monday, 4/15.  If you are late to class, it will not be accepted.  If you are absent, it will not be accepted late (even for legal absences.)

I will hold it for extra credit.  I am not announcing what the credit is at this time.  Whether you do this is up to you to you know where you stand.  If all of the steps above are not done, no credit will be granted.

EXAMPLE:

If you have "already passed" - EXCELLENT WORK!  Don't screw up the 4th MP because you still need to pass the Regents Exam, and it will look bad to colleges!

If you need a grade that is a failing grade any other MP - GOOD WORK! Don't screw up the 4th MP because you still need to pass the Regents Exam, and it will look bad to colleges!

If you need a 65 or better - THAT'S NORMAL!  Don't screw up the 4th MP because you still need to pass the course AND Regents Exam!

If you need a score that's over 100...you are mathematically our of luck when it comes to passing.  I highly suggest coming to school from 6:45- 7 am on Monday, 4/15 to have a conversation about this.  Depending on you, there may be a way for you to salvage your year, but this is your one shot.
There will be no other day we can have this chat.

Thursday, April 11, 2019

If you were absent today (4/11), read this

If you were absent today, you missed required classwork on China.  You are not exempt.  You must complete your chart with the Great Leap Forward & Cultural Revolution and turn it in no later than the start of your class on Monday, 4/15.  Failure to do so will result in a 0 for this assignment.  This cart was handed out days ago, there may br none left on the Absent Bin.

Thinkwave Reports due back Monday, 4/15

Tomorrow in class you will get a printout of your Thinkwave report for the 3rd MP.  It is due back Monday, 4/15. signed by your parent/guardian.  This will count as a test grade for the 4th MP.  I will not take it late.  100 or 0.  You are 100% in control of this grade.

If you are absent from school tomorrow, your deadline is Monday, just like everyone else.  You will ave to print out your 3rd MP grades & average at home, have your parent/guardian sign it, and hand it in Monday.

China Chart Videos

If you want a head start on the chart you have left, these are good videos to watch.
We will not watch them n class, and you will be filling in the charts tomorrow...& I'm collecting them.

After School Regents Review & Extra Credit

The definition of "good standing" is: in class every day, on time, have HW due daily, all assignments for the week completed, & having your review supplies daily.

If you are in good standing for the week and have signed up for and attend review, I will give you 1 extra credit point per hour of review.  Review goes from 2-5:15.  If you are on time, that means 3.5 points per review.  These points will be added to your 4th MP average at the end of the course.

Let's be clear:
If you are late to review, you lose the credit for that week.
If you leave  review early, you lose the credit for that week.
If you are not in good standing for the week, you lose the credit for that week (but if you are not in good standing, you are in special danger of failing & need to come to review just to pass the Regents.)

You regain eligibility the following Monday...so you have the same chance to earn those extra credit points all over again.

Haven't signed up for the 1st review yet?  You should.  Good Standing for that review starts 4/29, & all work due that week.  Notes, Video Packets, Online Exams, having your review supplies... ...

5 reviews are being held...that's a potential 17.5 points added to your 4th MP grade.  And, if you are doing your work, your average should be decent...giving you the maximum opportunity to either pass or earn a great grade for the 4th MP to really boost your average...which may increase your chances of earning a college scholarship since our overall GPA will also go up.

MAKE GOOD DECISIONS!!!!

If you did your vocab on flashcards this year...

If you made flash cards for your vocab HW this year, put them in your Regents Review Flash Card box.  You have already started your review!  Take a divider card/tab & label it "VOC."  Start studying!  Knowing vocabulary is the easiest way to get the correct answers on the Regents Exam - if you don't know what something means, you can't answer the question without guessing or write an essay on it.  If you DO, you can use it as extra info for more points on an essay.

Chapter 33 Online Exam Info

Your Chapter 33 Exam will open Tuesday, 4/16 at 2 pm.  It will close on Tuesday, 4/30, at 4 pm.  It is posted in Castle Learning.

Your Chapter 33 video packet(s) & sheets is due at the start of class on Tuesday, 4/30.  It will not be accepted late.

A few reminders about your online exams:
1.  There is no make up exam.  You do it online by the time is closes or you miss the exam & will receive a grade of 0.
2.  You can do the exam at school on your free period OR after school when the library is open.  If you need a pass, please bring your agenda book.
3.  "First try only" counts, no partial credit for 2nd choices...because the Regents has & will never work that way.
4.  Any unfinished portion of the exam once it is locked will be like not finishing am exam in class - anything left unanswered will be marked wrong.
5.  Chronic & habitual cutters will receive no credit for online exams.  You must be in class regularly to receive credit.  You will NOT be allowed to earn grades while cutting, since any exam given in class you'd also likely cut (based o your current behavior.)

Regents Date, Time, & Instructions

Your Regents Exam is on
Monday, June 3rd
at 8 am
(NOT 9:15 as the state has posted on it's schedule.)
Take your regular bus to shool at the regular time.

Remember,, if you are late, you do not get that time back - you lose that time on the Exam.

You MUST have:
- This year's school ID
- At least 2 identical standard blue or black pens (no gel pens or erasable ink!)
- Your seating assignment

You CANNOT have:
- Electronics of ANY kind, including wireless earbuds
- Backpacks or large pocketbooks (you will be required to check them with Security at the Front Lobby & pick them up later)
- Review books, notes, flashcards, etc. in the gym (toss them on your way out if you brought them to study with before your exam)

Be sure to follow the school dress code but dress for the weather.  The gym gets very stuffy & hot, but all school dress codes apply.  Don't get sent out of a Regents Exam for inappropriate clothing!

Regents Review Plan, read to the very end for supply list

I have spent the weekend thinking & brainstorming about how to best use our time to tackle Regents Review this year, since we know so little about the exam.  I think I have a plan that will use our last weeks together most effectively.  It incorporates content, which I refuse to abandon, as well as the skills you're been practicing all year, which are required to come close to passing this exam.

PROS:
- Maximize our time for the greatest benefits
- Content review necessary for all parts of the exam
- Practice with the new style of multiple choice questions
- Practice with CRQs
- Proactive writing your thesis statement for your EI
- You still get flash cards to take home & study
- The harder you worked this year, the easier review is going to be for you

CONS:
- Review is NOT "reteach" or "relearn," it is "remember."
- If you didn't do your work &/or learn any topic when we did it, you;re n you're own. (To be fair, this is not new because of this exam, this is ALWAYS the way review has been handled.  Start watching YouTube videos if this is you!)
- If you aren't in class, you miss any skills we practice
- There is no going back, there is no make-up work, there are no notes or flash cards posted online
- If you aren't in class, you miss any flash cards we make.  Nothing is posted online.
- The less you worked this year, the harder review is going to be for you

So...here is the plan:
- Flash cards for content in class (see required supplies for class below.)
- Different review cards (my personal content flash cards) will be used only in Friday reviews.
- Practice exams until we run out of time

We start the day after we finish the curriculum (or when I decide we need to start, which ever comes first.)

REQUIRED SUPPLIES (let's say as of April 25th):
300 lined 3x5 index cards (the less you know the more you'll need)
Dividers or Tabs for your index cards
3x5 index card box (fits 300 or more cards)
Standard Blue or black pens - NO GEL PENS WILL BE ALLOWED IN CLASS AS OF 4/29.

Any questions?  See or email me before Break.

Absent When Review Books Were Distributed?

Review books were handed out at the start of class Friday.  If you were absent or late to class, you will need to come to 1823 before 7:15 before Friday of this week to sign for your book.  Time was already taken out of class Friday, no further time will be spent distributing review books during class.

Starting Friday I will be swapping extra books with other teachers, so be sure you follow these instructions.

As stated Friday, do not lose our book as no extras will be given out.  Keep them home until I tell you to start bringing them to class, and do NOT do the assignments in the book, also as discussed.

Clarification for 3rd & 4th MP

1.  All Vocab Quizzes & Vocab HW will count for the 4th MP.
2.  All Participation grades through 4/12 will count for the 3rd MP.
3.  All HWQs through 4/12 will count for the 3rd MP, UNLESS we don;t finish a section on 4/12 & it carries over to 4/15.  If that happens, that section will count for the 4th MP.
4.  All Castle Learning Online Exams due up to & including 4/12 will count for the 3rd MP.  Any due 4/15 or later will count for the 4th MP.  The same goes for the video packets that go with those chapters, due n exam days.

CL Update

FYI, the Castle Learning issue was resolved before the end of 4th period today.

As suggested by your classmates if your MMDD of birthday doesn't work and you have a single-digit birthday try it with MMD.

For example, if your birthday is April 3rd...

OR
