Regents Review Dates & Info

After-School Regents Review Dates

Sign up Sheet for May 11th will go up tomorrow morning.

Friday, May 11th from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

Friday, May 18th from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

Friday, May 25th from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

Friday, June 1st  from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

Monday, June 4th, night before your exam, from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

This review has been very successful over the last 17 years with students who attend them in conjunction with being in class daily, are prepared, do their review HW, and study their flash cards nightly.  No one who has done all of these things has failed the Exam to date.  Since your in-class review time is extremely limited at best, I encourage everyone eligible to sign up for ALL of them!

Here are the details:

1.     Sign up sheets will be put up on Monday and taken down at the end of school on Wednesday.  Anyone with behavioral or discipline issues this year in my class is not permitted to attend.

2.     If you sign up, you are expected to show up.

3.     If you are not coming to school, not coming to class, not doing all work as assigned, &/or are unprepared for class you are not eligible for these reviews.  You can & are greatly encouraged to attend the department sponsored reviews.

4.     All rides must be on time.  Anyone walking home must submit a permission slip to me.  Failure to do so will result in you not being allowed to attend future after-school reviews with me.

5.     If you would like to participate in the pizza ordering, please being exact change of $1.25 er slice to review with you.  It is unlikely I will have change so bringing the exact amount is important in order to place your order.  You may order as many slices as you like.

6.     You may bring a drink & your own sandwich (if you don’t want pizza.)

7.     Review is limited to 30 students per course.

Review is done in pairs by your course (Global in pairs, US in pairs.)  It is not a lecture, it is not notes.  It is you, using my personal flash cards (different from those you do in class), to study & internalize information with a partner.  It is timed & organized in a way to give you the maximum exposure to Regents topics during any review period.  You can work on your weakest areas.

"Amnesty" & Last Chance Reminder

Just a reminder...if you have not done your job as a student this year & are now in significant danger of failing the course, you shoudl be following the "amnesty" program I posted last week.  If you don't, you have used all of your chances.  There are barely 25 classes left before Final Exams.

EXAM CLOSES Today & Packet Due: Fri., 5/11

Your Chapter 33 Castle Learning Online Exam will open on Monday, 4/30 & closes at 8 pm on Friday, 5/11.  This gives you 12 to complete, with 10 days on school computers.

First try only counts.  Test is not timed, which means you can sign out & go back to it later.  No make-ups since it is online.  If you don't finish (deadline locks it, etc.), anything unanswered is wrong, just like if you left it blank in class.  Quizlet for this exam is also open, but you are best using your notes & video sheets to help you answer the questions for this exam.

You Chapter 33 Video Packet(s) are due at the start of class on 5/11 as well.  "Packet" is defined as all video worksheets handed out for Chapter 33, stapled together or not..  See the post with the video links for a list.

One. Final. Chance. Starts 4/27. You need to read this, NOW

Read this very carefully, some of you may be able to save yourselves.  It starts tomorrow, so it is urgent you read it now!

If you:
1. Are prepared daily with all work done, notes, highlighter, handouts (this means all questions answered on all handouts, video packets, vocab - absolutely complete work)
AND
2.  Score a 90 or higher on the Regents Exam

I will consider a passing course grade for you if you are currently failing.  This will be on a case by case basis and does not mean I will grant a passing grade, only that I will consider it based on your effort starting tomorrow, Friday, 4/27.  If you see me before 1st period on a day you are attending US History Regents Review, I will give you a slip for that teacher to complete for a chance to earn extra credit points for your 4th MP average.  (My review, if you are eligible, will also earn you extra credit points for your 4th MP average, 1 point per hour of review so sign up when the sheet goes up if you're allowed to join me.)  If you don't get the slip prior to 7:25 am on that day, you missed your chance.

Now...for those of you who are already passing, know you do all of the above and none of what's listed below, I'm not leaving you out.  On a case by case basis, I will consider "bonus points" to boost your course average.  You did the right thing, you deserve the chance to earn a perk more than anyone!  Same for the Regents Review perk.

However, if you fall into any category below, you will not be eligible for anything above except the Regents Review credit:
1.  Chronic cutting this year (or cutting any day moving forward)
2.  Chronic lateness (or late any day moving forward)
3.  Homework not done or incomplete (document packets, vocabulary, video packets - anything assigned)
4. Not paying attention in class
5. Unprepared for class (no notes, highlighter, review supplies, can't find handouts, didn't get a text book, etc.)
6.  Failing Quiz or Exam grades, since you need to be studying to pass the Regents
7.  Failure to turn in phone or turn off phone

Any of these items will cause you to disqualify yourself.  It will take only 1 violation on one day.  This is a last chance gift, not something I am required to do.  If you fall into the "I did nothing & now I can't pass the course" category, you might want to seriously consider this.

Remember, this starts tomorrow.
Fail a HW quiz tomorrow?  Disqualified.
No Vocab/incomplete vocab?  Disqualified.
Fail the quiz tomorrow?  Disqualified.
Don't do, complete, or fail the Ch 32 Online Exam due tomorrow you had a week to complete?  Disqualified.

Start doing something to redeem your year.
This is it.
No more chances if you blow it.

Chapter Video Packet Reminder

Any video on any Chapter packet that we do not do in class but is posted on the blog is required to be completed.  You will lose credit on your work if any video is left unwatched, just like you lose credit for all unanswered questions.  If the video is not posted, it will not be counted against you.

Voc Quiz Make-Up Updates

Ch 32 Voc Quiz make-ups end tomorrow (Friday, 4/27.)  Ch 33 Voc Quiz make-ups will be Mon & Tues (4/29 & 30.)  Usual room & time applies.

Thinkwave Updates

I am just starting to catch up with grading from 4/16-4/25.  As I get an assignment graded I am putting it into Thinkwave.  If you turned something in late, or it went to Resource, it will show up as a 0 at first because it is not with the rest of the assignments.  Check daily to see what is posted & what, if anything, you are missing in case you think you were legally absent for classwork or tuned something in.  All of the work from this time frame should be in Thinkwave by next Friday.  Once I am done with that work, I will start grading & entering the work from 4/26-5/4.

Remember, it is your responsibility to do your work, have your name/class period on top, & turn it in on time.

Anything we did last week but I have not yet collected  hold onto it.  I may collect it as I finish up a couple of the large piles of grading I already have in front of me.

This Week's HWQs Update

All HWQs from this week will be given after your Vocab quiz in Friday, 4/27.

All of last weeks vocab will be given back at the start of class tomorrow, if your class did not already receive back that work last week.

Any other work due (packets, etc.) is due at the start of class tomorrow, 4/26.

Regents Review Supplies, if we have any time to review...

I honestly don't think we'll have time to review, but if we do, you will need the following items.  Please note that notes are done IN CLASS and NOTHING is posted online.  There are no make-ups during Regents Review.

Required Supplies as of May 14th!

You must have the following items with you in class
EVERY DAY in order to
fully participate in your review & to be
considered prepared:

  • 3x5 index card dividers (1 pack)
These are usually manila colored, alphabetical tabs are fine.  Plastic is not a good option as you will be unable to write on it & are not allowed to have Sharpies in school. Post-it’s or any similar items are not acceptable substitutes.  You need roughly 5 per day in class.

  • AT LEAST 2 identical, standard blue ink pens OR 2 standard black ink pens
NO GEL PENS since they CANNOT be used on the State Answer Sheet for the Regents Exam.  Erasable ink is NOT permitted.
  • Binder with paper for charts, essays, and handouts

  • Highlighter
The District has graciously bought books for our use.

UPDATED EXAM!!! DUE: Friday, 4/27 TEST CLOSES at 7 am

I don't know what happened to Castle Learning this week.  It seems to have deleted your Exam & given the US kids an extra one with the same title but different exam.  Your test has been updated, assigned, and the new due close date is Friday, 4/27 at 7 am.  The rest still applies.

Your Chapter 32 Castle Learning test is now open & closes at 7 am on Sunday, 4/22.  This gives you 4 days on school computers & a day at home, plus the day this is posted.  And yes, I know we're off on the due date, but that's the beauty of online exams.

First try only counts.  Test is not timed due to it's length, which means you can sign out & go back to it later.  No make-ups since it is online.  If you don't finish (deadline locks it, etc.), anything unanswered is wrong, just like if you left it blank in class.  Quizlet for this exam was opened last week.

DUE: Friday, 4/20 QUIZ TODAY & Document Packet due

1.  Packet given out in class n Friday, 4/19 & available in the absent bin every day since (until they run out): "Timeline of the Early Cold War."  All documents/writing assignments are to be competed.  First & last name along with class period on top of the front page.  Due at start of class.

2.  Chapter 32 Vocab quiz.  See below.

Vocabulary Quiz on these on Friday, 4/20.  Your words will be due at that time.  You may write them out as a list on paper OR you may write each on a flash card (use a flashcard for the required homework heading.)   Required homework heading must be used.  Use your knowledge, notes, online textbook, handouts, or the Internet to find the definitions.

Homework Heading (required on all work submitted):

Your Name                                                   Global II
Class Period                                                Assignment

Friday, May 18th from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

Friday, May 25th from 2 – 5:30 PM (late bus can take you home)

Friday, June 1st from 2 – 5: 30 PM (not sure about a late bus at the time of this posting)

Monday, June 4th from 2 – 5:30 PM (not sure about a late bus at the time of this posting)

IF YOU WALK HOME, YOU MUST PROVIDE A NOTE FROM YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN THAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WALK HOME.  it is rush hour, drivers are crazy, too much has gone on the last 2 years, and I want to be sure your parent/guardian is allowing you to walk home.

This review has been very successful over the last 17 years with students who attend them in conjunction with being in class daily, are prepared, do their review HW, and study their review work nightly.  No one who has done all of these things has failed the Exam to date

Here are the details:

1.     Sign up sheets will be put up on Monday of that week and taken down at the end of school on Wednesday.

2.     If you sign up, you are expected to show up.  If you sign up & don't show up or cancel last minute, you will not be permitted to attend the following week.

3.     If you are not coming to school, not coming to class, not doing all work as assigned, &/or are unprepared for class you are not eligible for these reviews.  You can & are greatly encouraged to attend the department sponsored reviews.

4.     If you have been consistently absent, late, had behavioral issues, &/or did no work this year, you cannot attend these reviews.

3rd Marking Period Averages Finalized

Your Chapter 31 Castle Learning Exam grades are now in Thinkwave.  That ends grades for the 3rd MP.  Your average in Thinkwave is your report card average.

All assignments due as of tomorrow count for the 4th MP.

Not surprisingly, many of you have asked about extra help.  Extra he is not a magical cure for failing.  If you aren't dong your HW, studying n Quizlet, competing your online assignments...you don't need "extra" help.  You need to do your work.  Extra help will do absolutely nothing if you aren't doing the work you have been assigned.   You can't expect to understand what you don't read, listen to, watch, participate in, or try to learn.  Coming to "extra" help won't change any of those things.

Monday, April 2, 2018

Important Updates

99% of the work from 3/29 & earlier was entered into Thinkwave before the end of the day on Thursday, 3/29.  There may be a random late assignment or Resource paper left.  Your Castle Learning Exam that closed Friday, 3/30 has not been entered yet as of this posting.

If you believe you turned in an assignment that has a 0, you must do the following:

  • Email me NO LATER THAN Friday, 4/6 with a list of the assignments you believe to be incorrectly entered.
  • You email must state what assignment you think has been entered incorrectly.
  • When you get your work back on Monday, 4/9, you must give me the work.  IF you turned it n and IF your name was on it and IF it had the assignment on top as required, I will take it for re-grading.  If any of these were not done, your grade stands.
  • If you do not get the work back, I did not get it, so your grade stands.
  • There will be no consideration past Monday since grades will be entered after school that day based on your Thinkwave average.
  • Work prior to March 9th will not be considered as you are supposed to be checking your Thinkwave weekly.

If you believe you were legally absent on a day you had a sub or a classwork assignment, you must do the following:

  • Email me NO LATER THAN Friday, 4/6 with a list of the dates you claim to be legally absent

    •  You must get a print-out from Attendance indicating you were legally absent from school for that day/those days AND bring it to me BEFORE THE END OF THE DAY on Monday, 4/9.
    • Only LEGAL absences qualify.  Cutting, lateness, music lessons, absent without a parent phone call to attendance, vacation, are all ILLEGAL absences.

    • There will be no consideration past Monday since grades will be entered after school that day based on your Thinkwave average.

    • Work prior to March 9th will not be considered as you are supposed to be checking your Thinkwave weekly.
